I have had one of the best weekends I have had in a long time. Today, I woke up singing that new song by Pharrell Williams, "Happy". That is impressive for me lately!
For those that know me, or read my previous blog, may have known what this weekend represented for my family. Two years ago this Saturday was two years since we lost my niece to SIDS. I so expected this weekend to be a bad one. But you know they say FRIENDS AND LAUGHTER ARE THE BEST MEDICINES, it is SOOO TRUE!
Friday night I went over to my friend Jois house to do laundry. I love that woman! We watched wedding dress shows and funny skits and her boys had me cracking up most the night! Her oldest son (15 years) even tried to practice his moves on me which was just weird, but had me laughing big time. That kid is such a clown!
Saturday, I worked at the Speedway. I was assigned to work the Suites and was gonna be working by myself. Also was told that the people could get quite rowdy and fights could break out and cops had been called in previous years. That ended up being a GREAT day! Another full time worker got stationed with me, and although neither of us like to be just still, we had a blast talking and getting to know each other. I got to learn more about the permanent positions at the speedway (which scared me and excited me). The other workers there for catering, security, etc were just all very pleasant and fun. I got the HUGEST can of coke brought to me twice which was pretty funny. We had two brothers come to watch the race and those two guys, oh my stars, they had both of us in tears we were laughing so much! One actually had a latex unicorn mask which kind of scared me at first, but it was pretty awesome and hilarious after the shock. It was just a day full of laughter and making new friends!
I am telling you, two days of fun, friends, and laughter changed my mood so much you could tell it on the outside too! I got several compliments on how good I looked today, and I felt it! One of my friends told me I looked like a supermodel (see, I truly do have the best friends!) and I tried to do my best pose and TOTALLY FAILED! But see, it just brought on more laughter!
I started thinking today about when I was happiest in life the most often, its goes back to my days in early college when my best friend and I used to hang out with some friends in a band and go to SAK Comedy Theater in Orlando (GO THERE IF YOU HAVEN'T! I LOVE THAT PLACE!) Why was that such a happy time? I still had all kinds of crap going on in my life. But I was surrounded by friends and A TON OF LAUGHTER!
So here is my challenge to myself and to all of you! MAKE NEW FRIENDS! MAKE A CHOICE TO ENJOY LIFE AND LAUGH! LAUGH! LAUGH! LAUGH! Laughter is great for your mood and your health! Surround yourself with funny people, watch a funny movie (I recommend Pitch Perfect!). Watch funny clips on YouTube if you have to. Then send it to a friend and laugh together! It works, I promise!
